Work came first. Racing followed close behind.
Joe's connection to cars and business began at A&A Auto Parts, the company his father opened when Joe was eleven. Employees raced on weekends, and their trips to local drag strips turned an early fascination into a lifelong pursuit.
At sixteen, after his father underwent open-heart surgery, Joe left school to help run the growing family business full time. Long days at the stores and weekends at the track taught him the same lesson from two directions: preparation, ingenuity, and relentless follow-through create momentum.
Under his leadership, A&A expanded and ultimately evolved into Keystone Automotive Industries, while Joe built one of the most accomplished careers in Top Fuel history.
A career built on speed
Never content to simply compete.
Amato paired consistency with technical curiosity. His teams kept rethinking what a Top Fuel car could do, producing barrier-breaking runs, five championships, and a record that made his name synonymous with innovation.

Beyond the track

After stepping away from driving, Joe remained active in motorsports as a team owner and mentor. He also brought his experience as an operator and entrepreneur into commercial real estate.
